Take a NEW look at each child on the Spectrum.
Currently, 1 in 36 children are diagnosed as being on the Spectrum; which is an increase from the previous rate, of 1 in 44 children!
This trend continues, with more and more children, being diagnosed as being on the Spectrum.
Unfortunately, the parents of these children, have no real understanding of their child; nor effective guidance on how to best work with their child. That is because most therapists, medical professionals, and teachers, were trained under a different mindset; or understanding of people on the spectrum.
Consequently, most school systems, lack an understanding of these children, lack a mechanism in place to address each individual child’s needs, and they lack the trained manpower to sufficiently handle the increasing influx of children diagnosed with autism.
Until each child, is approached as a unique individual, with individual needs. Then we will continue to lose our children within the educational system. These children are being herded into a “special needs” classroom; where they are effectively – Out of Sight and Out of Mind – while being given a minimalistic education. Each year they are quietly moved up and passed on to another grade; until they no longer have to be dealt with, and the educational system is no longer responsible.
UNDERSTAND THEIR WORLD
The only way to understand their world is to educate yourself, pay attention to them, tune into them, and to build a rapport with them.
Education is Key:
A child on the spectrum is NOT a Neurotypical Child! Most therapists, doctors, and teachers understand what they are taught about children, not on the spectrum; and even if they have “Special Needs training” it is dependent upon the source and years trained.
I believed the only persons able to give me an accurate insight into my child; would be someone, who is actually on the spectrum! Especially, since my child in addition to having an acute form of Autism, is also nonverbal.

LOVE Takes EFFORT
Most children on the spectrum tend to be less social than neurotypical children. If that is true with your child; then be subtle, but persistent with your expressions of affection. Build slowly over time, until your child begins to respond and reciprocate your expressions of affection.
